A pair of sturdy, comfortable shoes is one of the most critical personal items in an emergency preparedness plan, yet it's often overlooked because people assume they will be wearing them. You may need to evacuate quickly over debris-filled ground, broken glass, or rough terrain. Your emergency kit should ideally contain a pair of durable, broken-in hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes. They should have thick, puncture-resistant soles and provide good ankle support.
